About Robbe Verbeke

I am a lawyer at the Brussels bar since 2008 and my main focus is currently on the gaming and lotteries industry. As I am specialised in EU and national gaming law, I have the privilege of providing high-profile clients with legal advice and to litigate on their behalf. In this setting I have for instance pleaded various cases on behalf of the Belgian government before the Court of Justice of the European Union and the EFTA Court, but am also the spearhead of our practice group when tackling issues related to national gaming law. My work in this respect ranges from regulatory and compliance with all legal obligations related to land-based and online gaming, to setting up cooperation structures and agreements. I am also the co-pilot of a legal working group of European lottery operators. At the same time, an industry focus gives unique opportunities to maintain a horizontal view on various legal fields that any industry faces in the course of its business. In my work as a gaming lawyer I litigate and provide advice in various legal domains, including contracts (drafting and reviewing), regulatory, commercial disputes, administrative law, penal law, intellectual property, competition law, public procurement, etc. My work also extends to a wider array of issues including sports law,(EU) regulatory aspects of food import/export and labeling, general commercial contracts and commercial litigation. I have a master’s degree in law from the University of Ghent (2007) and an LL.M in Intellectual Property and Competition Law from the University of Liège (2008 – Magna cum laude).
