About Robbie Knopf

I recently began a new role as a Data Scientist for Big League Advantage, doing analytics consulting for college football teams using machine learning and Bayesian methods.Previously, I spent 6.5 years in the Miami Marlins Baseball Analytics department, the last 3 as a Senior Analyst. I was fortunate enough to spend my days diving into my lifelong passion of baseball as I constructed predictive models and data visualizations for player evaluation, player development, and advance scouting. I also had the opportunity to work closely with people outside of Analytics, communicating regularly with the Marlins' pitching coach while developing close relationships with pro and amateur scouts.I identify with the term statistician and take statistics into how I view the world each moment of the day. I refined my skills as a statistics concentration at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Before BLA and the Marlins, I interned for the Tampa Bay Rays, worked in pharmaceutical consulting and options trading, broadcasted for a collegiate summer league baseball team for a summer, and spent 5 years getting paid a small amount to write about baseball.
