Brief Biography - Robert A. Ancker, MDBorn and raised in Louisiana near New Orleans. Married with three college age children.Interests in winter sports, road & mountain biking, hiking, good food, arts, culture, professional sports, travel & coffee!Practicing Hospice & Palliative Medicine for 25 years.Experience summary:• Completed medical school, residency and 1-year Rural Family Medicine fellowship at Louisiana State University Medical Center (now LSUHSC) in Shreveport, LA. • Board Certified in both Family Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Medicine CAQ with current recertifications. • Full spectrum Family Medicine practiceso South Lake Tahoe, CA and Minden, NV (1994)o Winchester, VA Began career in hospice as the first medical director of hospice at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe, CA (1996)• Subsequent move to Winchester, VA and continued medical directorship at Blue Ridge Hospice Subsequent move to Coeur d’alene, ID to become the first full-time medical director of Hospice of North Idaho and established the Inpatient Palliative Care program at Kootenai Health (2005)• Provided inpatient palliative care consultations at Kootenai Health as well as Northern Idaho Advanced Care Hospital (LTAC) from 2005 to 2011 and again 2016 to 2018. • Ongoing service on the Kootenai Health ethics committee. • Currently the only physician provider, with Nurse Practitioner support, for Hospice of North Idaho with ADC 145 including a 21 bed Hospice House inpatient unit (since 2011) as well as oversight of the Community Palliative Care program. Other Accomplishments:• HCR40/POST Task Force in 2006/2007: updated Idaho’s DNR statutes to include the creation of the Idaho POST (POLST) DNR form in 2007• Featured presenter on the Idaho Quality of Life Coalition’s DVD: A Clinician’s Guide to Starting Conversations about End of Life/POST Consult. • Frequent lecturer on hospice, palliative care, pain management, and end of life issues locally and statewide for a variety of state organization annual meetings, healthcare providers and facilities, and hospital and hospice staff education.• Kootenai-Benewah Medical Society: Past President• Idaho Medical Association: Current member Board of Trustees, Trustee District One
