Background

About Robert Aronson

Effective June 2022, I retired from the practice of law, thereby culminating a 36-year career as an immigration attorney. Prior to retirement, I was an Immigration Attorney and Shareholder in Fredrikson & Byron, based in Minneapolis. My basic professional focus concerned employment-based immigration and, in particular, immigration matters for Physicians, Healthcare Workers, and Biomedical Researchers. I achieved a national reputation for the quality of my legal services and legal acumen. My clientele was drawn from all areas of the United States, and included: universities, medical facilities, corporations, high tech, etc. I have authored roughly 70 publications, largely in the area of immigration law for the healthcare and academic communities, and several of my publications are considered to be seminal works in the field. In terms of my communal contributions, I am the Immediate Past Chair of HIAS, which is the nation's oldest refugee rights organization and the voice of the American Jewish community providing safety and dignity to refugees, asylum seekers, and forcibly displaced persons both in the United States and abroad. Professionally, I have achieved the following honors: Sidney Barrows Lifetime Achievement Award granted by the Cardozo Society; Distinguished Service Award of the Indiana University School of Law; Roberta Friedman Lifetime Achievement Award, issued in recognition of my impact on immigration law and policy for international physicians; Fredric Moskol Leadership Award in recognition of my contributions in creatively expanding coverage by international physicians for rural and underserved populations; Editor-in-Chief of "The Physician Immigration Book,"; Legal Consultant to the Commission of Graduate Medical Education (COGME), which is the Advisory Body to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, founder and first chair of the IMG Task Force. I hold my Law Degree from the Indiana University School of Law, and thereafter was a Fulbright Fellow at the Law Schools of Harvard University and Moscow State University.
