About Robert Birt

I am a proactive, capable and adaptable Crew Manager with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service. I have twenty five years’ experience attending operational incidents as a Fire-fighter and Supervisory Manager including over three years as a Brigade Instructor. In my current role, I effectively manage a Watch on station in line with the daily work routine, at operational incidents and also helping develop and maintain the skills of my colleagues through instruction, training and assessments. As an Instructor at the Service’s Training Centre, my main role was as a Breathing Apparatus and Fire Behaviour Instructor within the Breathing Apparatus Training School, in which I researched, developed and delivered training, both theoretical and practical, to personnel of all levels of experience, from new recruit Firefighters to Senior Officers. I also delivered Leadership training as an Adair Accredited Team Leader Level Trainer as well as terrorist incident, trauma injuries training and Confined Space Access & Rescue training. I also work part-time as a Casual Lecturer with South Tyneside College's Marine & Offshore Safety Training Centre (MOST), delivering practical ship and offshore firefighting training as well as providing safety during live fire exercises. I also provide training as a self-employed Associate Trainer, delivering Confined Space training, Fire Awareness/Warden courses, Health & Safety and First Aid training, as well as being a member of a Confined Space Rescue Team for various safety companies. I am friendly and approachable and able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, and I consistently work to high professional standards and lead by example.
