About Robert Blythe

Meticulous, well-informed, and curious historian with 25+ years experience conducting research and oral-histories, giving presentations and writing extensive, well-regarded historical narratives of national parks and the built environment - I am a published freelance historian with expertise in the history of American architecture and urbanism, environmental history, and southern U.S. history. My most recent contract work involved the preparation of substantially expanded National Historic Landmark and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) documentation for the James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor, Ohio. My 500-page history of Everglades National Park has been accepted for publication by the National Park Service (NPS). Other work includes a 2014 history of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in Louisiana and many studies and NRHP nominations done while I was employed by the NPS. As a volunteer for the Chicago History Museum, I have written a 20-page corporate history of Marshall Field & Co. and several blog posts that and other museum collections.
