About Robert Buck
Experienced contemporary artist with a demonstrated history of exhibitions, screenings and working in art and arts education fields. Skilled in Art Education, Visual Arts, Script Writing, Exhibitions and Curating. A Certified Life Coach, with an emphasis on art. Strong arts and design professional, graduated from the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, and attended Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. A cross-disciplinary artist, I am recognized for my precise use of materials, ranging from traditional art supplies to such non-art materials as mortician’s wax, industrial reflective paint, latent fingerprint powder and gunpowder. My contribution to the contemporary visual and media arts fields includes exhibiting, writing and teaching. I became a certified Life Coach in 2019 and have been practicing since then while continuing to make and exhibit art. I live and work in New York City, far West Texas, and Atlanta, GA. I moved from Baltimore to New York City in 1978 to study film-making at New York University. In 1993, I attended the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 1995, I was awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists’ Books, as well as an Art Matters, Inc. grant. I received a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award in In 2019, I received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award. My work is included in museum and private collections internationally. I have taught art and media at the following universities: Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Fine Art Department; Low-Residency Mentor, MFA Program, School of the Art Institute of Chicago; International Center of Photography, Bard College; School of Visual Arts, Computer Arts Department and Department of Film; Mason Gross School of the Arts, Graduate Program, Rutgers University. Since 2018, I have been art editor of The Lacanian Review. My preferred pronouns are he/him/his.
