About Robert Chatfield

I am an experienced board-certified anatomical and clinical pathologist. I have acted as Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology at two medical schools and lecturer at two others, in addition to being Director of Pathology Residency Training at a 400-bed teaching hospital. I have served as Laboratory Medical Director and Department Chair. I also owned my own histopathology and cytopathology laboratory for 17 years and am therefore proficient in managerial and marketing/outreach activities. I served on the American Osteopathic Association’s Bureau of Healthcare Facilities Accreditation for 10 years, and was National Chairperson for the Bureau’s Laboratory Accreditation Subcommittee. I have been very active in the American Osteopathic College of Pathologists, serving on the Executive Board and serving for one year as President of the College. I was awarded Distinguished Fellow of the College for my years of service. I served for nine years on the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology.Over the past several years, I have developed a deep interest in personal wellness, public health and healthy aging. I lecture and hold discussion/support group sessions throughout Michigan. I hold masters degrees in public health (MPH), geriatric health (MGH), and health administration (MHA) and wish to use this training professionally, in conjunction with my years of experience in the field of medicine and human pathology and disease.I love medicine and healthcare in general. I love to teach. I like to learn. I like people and I enjoy good students. I think of myself as a humanitarian, compassionate, understanding and non-judgmental. This I try to model to my trainees, emphasizing a patient-focused approach to disease and health care, and a warm, empathetic connection with sick and frightened patients.
