Background

About Robert Corbisier

I am a seasoned attorney with a broad background spanning public service, criminal law, litigation, and civil rights. I currently serve as the Executive Director of the Alaska State Commission for Human Rights, where I oversee the organization’s efforts to promote and protect the civil rights of all Alaskans through enforcement, litigation, and education. Since assuming this role, I have successfully navigated the agency through a period of significant turmoil, driving major improvements in operational efficiency and organizational structure. One of my most notable accomplishments was achieving a 40-year agency goal of reducing case processing times to under a year. I was elected to serve on the board of directors for the International Association of Official Human Rights Agencies. Prior to my current position, I held a variety of roles in both the public and private sectors. I served in the personal office for U.S. Senator Frank H. Murkowski, and subsequently as a political appointee in his gubernatorial administration under both the Attorney General and directly in the Office of the Governor. Additionally, I spent 5.5 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Anchorage, where I handled numerous trials and daily hearings. My legal career also includes 7 years in private practice with Reeves Amodio LLC, where I managed a diverse caseload encompassing environmental law, corporate law, property law, transactional, and some estate work. While there, one of my trial cases was appealed to the Alaska Supreme Court and resulted in a published decision favorable to my client. In returning to public service, I played an important role in assisting the incoming administration of Governor Mike Dunleavy with the repeal of a controversial crime bill. I earned my undergraduate degree from MIT and went on to complete my law degree at Vermont Law School, with a focus on environmental law. While in law school, I was an editor for the Vermont Law Review, I published a full article in the Alaska Law Review. Outside of my professional work, I enjoy a variety of activities including hunting, auto mechanics, home improvement projects, and off-roading. I also serve as the Cub Master for my children’s Cub Scout Pack and am an apprentice Chilkat weaver. I am an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation. My career has been defined by a deep commitment to public service, the pursuit of justice, and finding practical solutions to complex problems. I am always looking for ways to contribute to the betterment of our community and the advancement of Alaska's interests.
