At the age of 18 months I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and my parents were not given a good prognosis. They were told I would never walk, would never graduate from school and would be dependent on them for my care for my entire life. Thankfully, my parents did not accept this prognosis. I graduated with MY class in the top 10%, a college scholarship and a standing ovation. I followed with college, and after 5 years, 3 colleges and 3 changes in my major, I graduated “magna-cum-laude” with a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy Engineering Technology. Unfortunately, the timing of my graduation coincided perfectly with the end of the Federal Energy Tax Credits and therefore my future career. Finally in 1989 I was introduced to Civil Service and started my 17 year career in Building Code Enforcement, serving as the Building Inspector for 3 municipalities and as a Code Compliance Specialist for the State of New York. At 50 years of age, I was finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a “normal” schedule. Getting around was getting more difficult and everyday tasks are often very time consuming. A short time ago I "retired" from State service to pursue a new direction. I have BIG dreams… I have never relied on “the system” to carry me financially and I don’t like that option. I want to help my parents financially as they gave up so much for me. I want to purchase our family farm from my cousin (before it becomes another subdivision) and give my 14 nieces and nephews and their children a taste of what life was like growing up on a farm. I want to build a custom designed home for Judy and I. I want us to have a winter home someplace warm. Most of all, I want to make a difference in this world… Finally, I believe I have found the tool to do all of this and more!
