About Robert Deighton

I am a driven BSc Mathematics with Economics graduate from The University of Exeter aspiring to build a successful career in financial services. Throughout my degree I developed a deep understanding of logical and abstract thought processes by placing focus on abstract mathematics modules. My Economics education has fostered a deep interest in financial markets, which paired with a natural affinity for mathematics, has fuelled my drive to succeed in financial services. During the summer of my penultimate year at university, I interned at Novia Global as an Investment Operations Executive, contributing my skills to the firm through a mix of project-based work and daily processing tasks. As a result of this experience, I gained invaluable exposure to the wealth management sector, developing a solid foundation in wealth operations and adopting many transferrable skills to carry into my professional life. During my final year of college, I undertook a week-long placement with the finance team at Soho House in my hometown. I shadowed professionals across various roles, providing me with exposure to operations across hospitality finance. Additionally, I contributed to the success of the finance team by assisting with tasks like invoice processing, expense tracking, and financial reporting. Throughout my studies, I have balanced various part-time jobs. My first job at McDonald's as a sixteen-year-old gave me a tough, but valuable introduction to the workplace, offering exposure to a high-pressure work environment. This was followed by a three-year seasonal position at Soho House & Co and then, most recently, a position at WHSmith throughout my final year of university. I have actively engaged in a range of extracurricular activities alongside my studies. During my final year of college, I organised and led sessions at a local primary school tutoring younger pupils in mathematics to enrich their understanding and share my love of the subject. At university, I was a member of the Mathematics Society and the Entrepreneurs Society, which allowed me to greatly expand my network of like-minded individuals. In my spare time, I am committed to continuous learning and upskilling. I have completed certificates like the Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals credential, and the Bloomberg Market Concepts credential, offering me valuable and broad financial knowledge. I also had a great time attending the AmplifyME Finance Accelerator where I took part in job simulations as a market maker and asset manager, further expanding my understanding of financial services.
