We develop light fixtures that don't impact the ecology of the night. Why? Because no one else would. Now, we set the standard.MOTIVATION:Are you bothered by bright lights that shine in your eyes? Does outdoor lighting "invade" your space? When you are in the country, is the distant urban sky glow an unwanted reminder of the city? These frustrations were the origin of the Canadian Scotobiology Group (CSbG Inc.) and our product line of EcoLights - lighting with low ecological impact (Low-Impact Lighting). Night is critical to over half the life on Earth. But, the nocturnal environment is not what it used to be and this change is undermining the vitality and versatility of the environment, and our health. We help clients preserve the night environment and restore the healthy balance between day and night.Most people know there is a problem, so we focus on what that problem is. We can help reduce the impact of outdoor lighting, to return darkness to the night while still providing sufficient light for human activity. And, all this will significantly reduce your need for electrical power.Our 2-decades of work on the biological need for periods of darkness (scotobiology) led to the Canadian Guidelines for Outdoor Lighting (CGOL), which were originally developed for rural and urban park facilities. But urban light pollution is a growing problem that we can also help solve.ROAD TO RESPONSIBLE LIGHTING:EcoLights did not just happen. They are the result of interdisciplinary work in mechanical engineering, electronics, photonics and embedded software, and as well as biology and animal behaviour.
