About Robert F. Casper

A Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist (REI) for more than 30 years, Dr. Robert Casper established the Toronto Centre for Advanced Reproductive Technology (TCART) and is a Founding Partner and the Scientific Director of TRIO Fertility. In addition to his practice as a fertility specialist at TRIO, Dr. Casper is known internationally for his fertility research, he is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, a senior research investigator at Mount Sinai Hospital, and a multi-award winning physician who has authored over 350 scholarly papers. After receiving his Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he was awarded a Medical Research Council of Canada Fellowship for training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of California (San Diego) under the direction of Dr. Sam Yen, a world-renowned endocrine researcher. Soon after, he was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Reproductive Endocrinology. Today, Dr. Casper is a Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto and holds cross-appointments in the Departments of Physiology, Medicine (Division of Endocrinology) and The Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Casper is also a Senior Investigator in the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital. He also founded and is Medical Director of the Insception LifeBank Cord Blood Programme. Dr. Casper’s research activities have been continuously funded by the MRC/CIHR. He was awarded an MRC scholarship for training with Dr Yen, and received a joint CIHR/INSERM Visiting Scientist award during a sabbatical in the laboratory of Professor Edwin Milgrom in Paris. His areas of research include mitochondria in reproductive aging, endometriosis, and endometrial receptivity. Dr. Casper is the Past President of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS). Dr. Casper is an honorary member of the Middle East Fertility Society and was awarded the Health Silver Medal of the Ministry of Health, Republic of Lebanon, in 2001. In 2004 he was the recipient of the CFAS Award of Excellence for Lifetime Research Achievement. In 2012 Dr. Casper received the “Excellence in Research Award” from APOG (Association of Academic Professionals in Obstetrics and Gynecology of Canada).
