Background
About Robert G. Kitchen
I have worked as a land surveyor, railroad Roadmaster, CAD designer, civil engineer, and PC network administrator during my professional career, since 1977. My managerial experience began with eight years in the railroad industry with progressively increasing responsibility. During that time, I routinely inspected track and track maintenance procedures to insure compliance with industry, state, and federal track standards. I also conducted safety meetings and incident investigations, both alone and within an accident investigation committee. I have constructed new track, replaced ties, surfaced track, installed CWR, installed turnouts, rehabilitated road crossings, installed culverts, and numerous other trackwork related activities. In order to gain more direct engineering experience, so that I could qualify for a transfer to the Division Engineer's office, I left the railroad for a series of managerial positions concentrating on land surveying and development where I was directly responsible for the preparation of plans and documents for clients who expected results on time and on budget. I have now returned to the railroad industry as a Field Engineer at CN Railway. I am currently responsible for all railway design and new construction on the Michigan Division. I am proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2021 design software, and Topcon and Trimble GPS and surveying instruments. I have extensive experience with virtually any type of engineering drawing. I have performed countless designs of land development projects such as subdivision plans, land development plans, boundary surveys, road designs, earthwork plans, profiles, cross-sections, and erosion/sediment control plans. In my current position, I integrate survey data into design drawings for new or realigned track as well as managing the right of way for encroachments and outside development that may affect railroad operations. Specialties: Professional Land Surveyor, Civil Engineer, Railway Construction & Maintenance, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Active Directory
