About Robert Gilbey

I build the digital infrastructure powering the AI era. As META’s senior Connectivity Engineer for EMEA and APAC, I lead the design, construction, and delivery of hyperscale datacentre networks — overseeing everything from new builds and retrofits to vendor strategy, QA/QC, and operational excellence. With 19 years in datacentre operations, including 8 at META, I’ve delivered five hyperscale connectivity projects, two retrofits, and over 1M km of deployed fibre at the Clonee campus. I pioneered a live migration approach that reduced downtime to near zero, saving over $20M in operating costs and unlocking hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue generation capacity. Recognized with META’s top award, “Redefines Expectations,” I’m known for turning complex technical challenges into scalable, high-impact solutions. Beyond engineering delivery, I’m passionate about leadership and culture. I have managed and mentor cross-regional teams and up to 150 vendor staff, champion safety-first practices (over 5M incident-free hours at Clonee), and co-lead Veterans & Allies @ Meta, while supporting Women @ Meta global events. Outside work, I’m a proud husband and father of two, with interests in design, emerging technology, and global security policy.
