About Robert J Crisler

Bob leads the overall web development effort of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as Director of the Digital Experience Group, a partnership of University Communication and Information Technology Services. Bob also leads the UNL Web Developer Network, a 300+-member group formed to support UNL's unique single-codebase web development path. Bob holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UNL, both in Journalism. He has been with UNL in various marketing and communication roles since 1992, including stints as art director of Nebraska Magazine and lead designer for major university events. In Bob transitioned to a new role leading UNL's web effort. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln occupies a unique position in higher education web development. A single codebase underlies all sites that are part of the university organization. This simple construct — that all websites under the university banner are in fact the same website to users and should be treated as such — has benefits in cost containment, accessibility and security, as well as consistent presentation of brand and interface. UNL.edu was the first higher ed website representing a large university to fully optimize for the mobile revolution using responsive design; it was recognized by eduStyle in 2014 with the top honor, Best Overall Website; UNL has been among the “Sweet 16” for web accessibility for three years running. Outside of work, Bob loves spending time with his wife, Pat, son Sam and daughter Mari, all of whom hold degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Pat is also involved professionally in the mission of higher education at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. In off hours, Bob gets his hands dirty wrenching on his old Miata and/or GMC Motorhome or brewing beer while listening to music (including his kids' bands Social Cinema, Death Cow and UhOh). He currently serves as chair of the Ashland Planning Commission, and is former president of the Ashland City Council.
