Hi. Retirement doesn’t always mean riding a rocking chair. Retirement, for me, means rocking mountain roads on my motorcycle in the Appalachian Mountains and enjoying life. To fund my retirement, I work hard … as a travel writer. Yes, it’s a fabulous gig with weekly deadlines, carefully studied metrics, demands for new skills and rewards for excellence. Someday I will slow down, park my bike and play with my seven grandchildren. Until then, I am adding new clients who could profit from my writing, media relations, and team-building skills. As a self-employed business owner, I must keep my word or I will be out of business. Everyone says they’re honest. I am a man of my word, as proven by my impeccable credit rating and perfect driving record. Both of those achievements require daily sacrifices and commitment. That’s the way I serve my employers too. I hit my deadlines, keep my promises and stay within my budgets. After working for 25-years in radio broadcasting and media relations, I now write and edit manuscripts full-time. For example, I wrote a popular series of interviews with tech leaders in Chattanooga, Grand Rapids and Charleston. As the principle writer for AppalachianTrail.com, I have travelled the length of the AT and written hundreds of stories about the people I have met and the places I’ve visited, in addition to news stories of interest to hikers and dreamers. Forgive me, please, if this sounds too bold, but if you need something put into writing, I’ve probably done something similar.
