Background
About Robert Jehan
I am a Partner in a medium sized and growing firm of IP attorneys in London. I obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Exeter in 1987. I became a British Patent Attorney in 1991 and a European patent attorney in 1992. In 2001 I undertook a two year Masters in Law course, specialising in Advanced Litigation, and in June 2013 I was awarded a Masters of Laws degree (LLM) with Distinction. Since then, I became a qualified Patent Attorney Litigator with the right to conduct litigation in our Higher Courts. In 2013, after successfully completing a Higher Courts Advocacy course and assessment, I became a Patent Attorney Advocate, with the right of audience in all of the UK Higher Courts including in the Supreme Court. Currently, I am one of only six Patent Attorney Advocates in the UK. In 1992 I wrote and published the book "European Patent Decisions", for which I continued to write new editions until 2002. By 1998 European Patent Decisions had become a staple reference work, selling in 25 countries. I have worked both in private and industrial practice, having spent four years with the European Patent Department of General Motors Corporation. My practice focuses on electronics related inventions as well as a significant proportion in the medical devices and physics fields. Much of this is for direct applicants, which involves substantial amounts of original patent application drafting work and prosecution through Patent Offices around the world. My litigation experience and practice is also extensive, with over 100 completed opposition and opposition appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office, as well as a significant number of patent and designs actions in the UK, in other European jurisdictions and also further afield, including in the United States and China. I am a former Visiting Fellow of Cranfield University.
