About Robert Kaylinger

Having had an interest in rail from a young age, I began my career at the age of eighteen as a cleaner on passenger trains, working my way up as a trainee Locomotive / train driver on freight trains for Aurizon in Newcastle, NSW, before joining BHP about 6 years ago. With almost fifteen years of rail experience, I’ve driven a variety trains from coal, intermodal, works trains as well as my current job driving iron ore trains. I have almost 10 years of heavy haulage experience and have also obtained experience driving trains with ECP braking systems as well as distributive power. Furthermore, I am experienced in driving a variety of diesel-electric locomotives all the way from the 1950s era (that have different braking systems) up to today’s modern locomotives that are more computer based. Having worked in two different states, I’ve been exposed to two different systems of safe working as well as the automatic train protection system. In addition, I have had ample exposure to ground work such as shunting, the provisioning of locomotives, inspecting trains for departure and minor maintenance on wagons/rolling stock, which I also really enjoy. Punctuality, integrity and precision are some of the key factors forming the foundation of my work ethic. I pride myself on having a clean safety record with zero breaches and zero disciplinary action cases. My personal motto is “Continuous Improvement”.
