About Robert Kempton

I'm a recent graduate of the Master of Science in Professional Writing program from New York University. I'm interested in the relationship between tech and writing, and would like to find opportunity that develops accessible tools for users. The master's program allowed me to develop a diverse set of skills in writing - from B2B marketing to information architecture - but my thesis project focused on UX Design and Research, which is something I'm much more passionate about. I'm currently enrolled in Google's UX Design course to foster my knowledge in this field and develop my personal portfolio. I'm also taking additional courses in SEO from Hubspot and Semrush, and plan to take Google's Analytics course in the near future. My years of professional experience in the service industry helped me gain several key skills that make me a viable teammate for any company. I was able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and remember every detail to help me balance my workflow. I also learned a lot about customer service, from front-facing customer service to handling customer complaints, which made me a much better problem solver. My former company, 21c Museum Hotels, has a core philosophy:"we say yes." In this regard, we as service workers were able to go above and beyond to ensure that our guests were happy. We put guests and customer needs first, which I believe is one of the most important aspects of business and design. I'm hoping to implement this philosophy as well as my customer service experience in my career change moving forward. In my side hustle, I like to freelance as a photographer and a writer. I'm currently exploring freelance copywriting opportunities on Upwork, but I mainly use photography as a creative outlet - the freelancing is the cherry on top. When I'm totally not in work mode, I like to read and write poetry, and game or watch Twitch (something I'm also looking into for copywriting opportunities)! Thanks for reading!
