About Robert Kent

My practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation, especially patent and trade secret litigation. I have worked for both plaintiffs and defendants, at all stages of the litigation process, from pre-filing investigations and drafting pleadings, to discovery and depositions, to motion practice, and jury trial. My legal practice is informed by four years of industry experience in computer science, including positions in both software engineering and customer-facing technical advising and training at companies including InterSystems Corp.(Cambridge, MA) and SpartaCom Inc.(Tucson, AZ). During my time in industry, I gained expertise in a wide variety of standard languages and tools, including Java, C++, low-level network programming, SQL, and object-oriented access to relational databases. This expertise has improved my patent practice, not only with the deep knowledge necessary to conduct thorough infringement and invalidity investigations, but also with the ability to come up to speed quickly and work efficiently with state of the art technologies. My cases have spanned a range of technologies both within computer science and in other areas, including databases, digital imaging, DRAM memory devices, high speed digital signaling, plasma-based carbon deposition, and solar panel mounting devices. I have represented clients in California state courts, federal courts in California and Delaware, and the ITC.
