Background
About Robert Kiihne
I began working in the museums in high school, over 30 years ago for the last 25 years I have directed exhibits at the USS Constitution Museum. One day in 1996, just after completing a comprehensive exhibition, I began to watch visitors interact with the new exhibitions. I realized that only part of the exhibits met the needs and desires of the Museum’s audience. With the collaboration of a great team, we embarked on a mission to create audience driven exhibitions. With each new exhibit, the attendance and income of the Museum rose. The success of these exhibitions at the USS Constitution Museum lead to conversations with thousands of museum professionals across the country about the importance prototyping and social learning in exhibition design. The USS Constitution Museum is now a leader in family engagement for museum professionals. Exhibitions are group efforts. It is my great pleasure to work with a collaborative team that puts the visitor front and center. The more successfully you can create a cohort of collaborators working toward a shared goal, more successful everyone can be.
