Experience includes resolving complex issues related to public governments, First Nations, and Not-for-Profit organization governance. A values based executive who is able to effectively initiate and implement major organization and policy transformations. Over 30 years experience in: Dispute Resolution, including Negotiation and Adjudication: Supported and negotiated First Nations treaties, agreements between provincial and federal s governments, and interprovincial and international protocols on trade and climate change Transformed adjudication processes, and coordinated the development of compensation resolutions for historic abuse claims. Executive and Strategic Leadership: Presided over strategic public legal, regulatory, and policy organizations with staffs of several hundred, and budgets of $60-100M. Transformed regulatory, legal services delivery, management and adjudicative organizations to achieve greater responsiveness, transparency and effective service delivery. Managed complex litigation on high profile and sensitive public issues. Law and Governance : Currently teaching Access to Justice and Legal Ethics in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Administration at UVic. Built a private law practice focused on family, corporate/commercial, municipal and real estate matters. Championed and implemented governance transformation initiatives in several charitable and Not-for-Profit organizations. Speak regularly on access to justice, legal regulation and aboriginal law issues at international, national and provincial conferences and events.
