Background
About Robert Louhimies
PhD in Nordic history, graduated from Åbo Akademi University in 2020. Working as a archivist at the Institute of Maritime History at Åbo Akademi University. To my main interests I count the availability of the material. The combination of research and archive is useful as well in my role as a researcher, as in the role of the archivist. In my thesis I studied how Finland’s biggest shipping company claimed compensation for ships used and lost in World War One, trying to get Soviet Russia, the Government of Great Britain and Baring Bros. to compensate the company for their losses. Since the absolute need of economic resources decreased in the 1920s, the incentive for continuing the process changed to a need of moral redress. Further on the main incentive changed to a need to uphold the memory of Lars Krogius, by not giving up the fight for compensation. Using these three phases I analysed the source material, i.a. correspondence and protocols, to answer why a big shipping company continued the claim for such a long period. By showing that a company can act on other preferences than economic such, the thesis is contributing not only to the study of crises of peace, but to the study of family companies and the family’s role in running processes driven more on emotions than on economic preferences. Read the thesis here: From June 2018 I was working as archivist at Pojo lokalhistoriska arkiv-Pohjan paikallishistoriallinen arkisto, which is a part of Fiskars museum. I was in charge of the archival collections. Between January and August 2020 I was on paternal leave with our daughter Edith. From November 2020 until May 2022 I had the opportunity of beeing Deputy Museum Director at Fiskars Museum. During this period I have managed the aquisition of a new database for our collections and managed the project of restoring a steam locomotive, called Pikku-Pässi. The museum has also during this period changed accounting firm, and as responsible for the economy of the museum, also this has been on my table.
