About Robert MacDonald

I moved into the industry after a career in school administration and leadership. I started at the ground floor working as a Blast Assistant seeking to learn as much about the drilling and blasting industry as I could. In addition to working as a Blast Assistant I also worked as a driver doing parts running and staff transport, as well as warehousing and receiving explosives deliveries from suppliers. In February 2023 I moved into Field Safety where I used my previous administrative experience along with my new skills in the field to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards and risks. I performed site inspections, investigations and documentation, on-boarding of new workers, and mentoring as well as serving as Acting Project Administrator. In May of 2023 I began taking courses through the Alberta Construction Safety Association towards achieving NHSA/NCSO certification. As of May 22/24, I have achieved NHSA certification and have now completed the required hours of in field work to achieve NCSO certification. In July 2024 I joined Brock Canada Field Services as a Field Safety Coordinator at Christina Lake at the Cenovus Plant. As part of the duties I participate in and plan safety meetings, plan and carry out safety initiatives, perform field visits and observations, identify and complete hazard assessments, track leading and lagging indicators, do fleet tracking and maintenance, organize, distribute, and order PPE, complete and update JSA’s, onboard new employees to site, perform incident investigations, promote continuous growth and education of knowledge and skills, build strong and effective relationships and champion the safety and well being of all workers among other things.
