Background
About Robert Martin
I enjoy asking and discussing the big questions of life. I have organised (and participate) in discussions, debates and presentations dealing with issues relevant to the modern person. I have a Marketing degree and a Theology degree and utilise both in my current role as a pastor at Northcote Baptist church in Melbourne's inner north. Northcote Baptist church is a diverse intergenerational community based on High Street Northcote - the coolest street in the world! For many years I hosted the podcast and radio show Bigger Questions, which explores the big questions of life and was played on 10 radio stations around Australia. I am also a regular contributor to God in 60 Seconds, 60 second radio spots - short spots which explore big questions. I am also the chair of the Belgrave Heights 'Ideas Convention'- an apologetics convention in Melbourne. I organised the 2012 Reason for Faith Festival, a series of 11 events running over 5 days immediately following the Global Atheist Convention held in Melbourne. Over 900 people attended the Festival and all (atheists and believers alike) enjoyed the commitment to rigour and respect. I also organised a dialogue between atheist Prof. Lawrence Krauss and Christian Dr. William Lane Craig in August 2013 on the topic,'Is is reasonable to believe there is a god?' before 1,700 people at the Melbourne Town Hall. I have spoken at many churches or other groups across the city. My particular focus is the historical Jesus, ethics, work and the interface between the Christian message and modern culture. I previously worked in pricing for Royal & SunAlliance Insurance where my main achievement was the development of a new motor rating system for APIA, which was estimated to generate an additional $2million in revenue.
