About Robert McLaren
General research interests are in the development of new analytical methods for probing the chemical composition of the polluted atmosphere (gas and particulate phase), and to further our understanding of emission sources, transport of pollutants and chemical and physical transformation processes in the atmosphere. Research studies are conducted through laboratory based investigations (controlled atmospheres) as well as through participation in field studies in the real atmosphere (chaotic atmosphere). Current interests are in Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (DOAS)[active, passive and lunar], intercomparison with satellite derived chemical measurements, chemical processes in urban and polluted marine areas and measuring sources of greenhouse gas emissions, especially methane and carbon dioxide.
