About Robert Mitchell

As a student assistant at California State University, San Bernardino, I assisted archaeologist Dr. Peter Robertshaw in preserving his archeological research materials including field notes, maps, artifact catalogs, and other documents. This position also provided experience in using the Digital Archaeological Record. While at CSU San Bernardino I have gained valuable experience in managing and applying for grants, conducting research, and presenting to international audiences. I was able to present the data from my study at CSUSB, “Mansplaining: Chauvinism or Status Striving” at the Human Behavior and Evolution Society in Amsterdam in July 2018. Designing, conducting, and presenting this study helped me to develop clear, respectful communication skills. In July 2019 I took part in the Ossuary Excavation and Commingled Remains Osteology Research Workshop Lost Churches Project in Romania. There I carefully and respectfully excavated and studied the culturally sensitive remains onsite. As part of this research project, I created a research design including the formulation of a novel research question, collection of suitable data for testing that question, analysis, and presentation of the research at the Seventh International Osteology and Bioarchaeology Student Colloquium in Odorheiu Secuiesc. I believe my communication skills, strong Microsoft Office skills, attention to detail, and experience excavating, inventorying, cataloging, and rehousing archaeological and archival objects will contribute to my success in the cultural resource management sector.
