About Robert Morley

I graduated from Nottingham University in 1974 (Mathematics) and started work on an IBM system 360 computer at Datasolve in Guildford, programming in COBOL and assembler. Later, I was moved to Sunbury-on-Thames and subsequently became a mainframe systems programmer, for which the assembler expertise was very relevant. I was also given responsibility for mainframe performance and used MICS to help me. This was part of the start of getting to know SAS, all the way back in 1983. I continued working on the mainframe, MICS and SAS for many years. My employment changed to various companies under TUPE regulations and ended up working for Xchanging in 2008. A year and a half later, the mainframe service was reviewed and I was made redundant due to the reduction in numbers of support staff. I then worked on a contract with Legal and General as a SAS developer (base / macro / SQL) – also on the mainframe, as it happened. After about 18 months working at Ulster Bank (flying to Belfast every week) getting experience with Enterprise Guide, I worked at UKAR near Bradford for 3 months producing SAS reports for Bradford & Bingley / Northern Rock Asset Management (NRAM). This was followed by some time at ING in Brussels on an Enterprise Guide migration project. During a recent gap between contracts I had some formal training introducing me to DI Studio. Originally, I joined the ranks of daily commuters into London. Now I work 3 days a week, mostly from home, commuting about once a month.(Thank you COVID-19 for saving me travel time!)
