About Robert Olson

Partner and leader of PwC’s Customs & Trade Advisory practice in Japan, based in Tokyo. Over 20 years experience in the customs and trade arena, including industry, brokerage and consulting experience. I assist companies regionally with issues related to import/export compliance, structuring of global trade management systems and other global trade issues. I have broad technical experience with business planning, automation, customs valuation, tariff classification, origin and free trade agreements, foreign trade zones, the performance of compliance audits and assisting companies in structuring their global supply chains to maximize opportunities for duty savings while seeking to minimize compliance risks. I also assist clients with issues related to management of export controls in the areas of export filings, Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, and the automation of compliance in these areas. Through the handling of many prior disclosures and customs audits, I have developed a deep understanding of managing the complex issues related to dealing with controversial customs matters. Another area of direct experience is in the development of business process requirements and designs for automated trade compliance systems. This experience relates to both custom-built solutions and SAP Global Trade Services (GTS). Industry experience includes: automotive, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, manufacturing, retail, oil and gas and high-tech, apparel, footwear aerospace & defense, agriculture and mining industries. Prior to joining PwC, I have worked with another Big 4 consulting firm and previously for Nissan North America in Nashville, TN, where he was responsible for designing and implementing trade compliance programs for Nissan's distribution and manufacturing operations.
