Selected Career Highlights: Led development of the “Right Care Right Now” (RCRN) Nurse Triage Line (NTL) triage initiative designed to decrease low acuity ED visits while providing timely patient care, transportation, and Medicaid coverage. Convened the Integrated HealthCare Collaborative with five committees and ~160 participants including participants from governmental agencies as well as non-governmental participants. Provided low income, underserved populations with access to a trained medical professional when calling 911. Persuaded the Mayor and City Council to establish Medicaid coverage of Lyft drivers to transport patients in a timely manner (average 9.5 minutes) to qualified health center systems (urgent and primary care clinics). Successful academic career, attaining the rank of full Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Received 12 teaching awards from students, residents, and faculty. Successfully transitioned to full-time physician role as Internal Medicine Discipline Director at Unity Health Care, Washington, DC’s largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Provided care to underserved populations in the poorest parts of DC, as well as patients at a homeless shelter. Currently working to develop the DC Sobering and Stabilization Center. Partnering with the Department of Behavioral Health to create a safe, controlled environment for inebriated individuals to recover without the need for ED or police intervention. Chair of the DC Resuscitation Collaborative, an innovative, interdisciplinary team of governmental and private partners committed to improving the cardiac arrest survival in DC.
