About Robert Pope

Dr. Pope is a seasoned medical professional with extensive experience in health care, medical policy, and payment methodologies. He has held a number of executive management positions with health benefit companies and managed health care organizations such as Humana, United Health Group, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kentucky and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He began his career in medicine in 1978 as a general Internist and was in private practice for 10 years. Dr. Pope is presently a healthcare consultant working with health care providers and companies on reimbursement strategies for new products or to improve their present reimbursement. His clients have included pharmaceutical companies, genetic lab companies, and a prosthetics/orthotics company. He also has an ongoing consulting role with Advanced Medical Pricing Solutions (AMPS), Atlanta, Georgia. In his role, he has been the subject matter expert on Medicare medical policy and Medicare payment methodology for hospital, physician, ASCs, and DME claims. He also works with the company leadership on product development and other company strategies. His most recent health plan leadership role included Humana's Chief Medical Officer, Senior Products, with national responsibilities for strategic direction of the clinical programs and medical cost management for all Medicare enrollees. Dr. Pope is an undergraduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Louisville. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
