About Robert Proctor

As the Associate Director of Career Counseling at The George Washington University Law School, Rob leverages his varied experience as an educator and attorney providing career guidance to law students, assisting them in navigating the legal job market and shaping their careers in the private sector and public interest law. Prior to his current role, Rob was a Senior Clinical Instructor and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, where he developed curricula and taught a wide range of legal subjects in Harvard Law School's Criminal Justice Institute and the Trial Advocacy Workshop, Harvard's renowned and intensive trial course. His expertise includes trial advocacy, investigations, criminal justice policy, rules of evidence, criminal law, criminal and civil rules of procedure, ethics, school disciplinary hearings, administrative hearings, juvenile justice, and legal writing. He also supervised third-year law students in their representation of indigent adults and juveniles charged with misdemeanors and felonies. Notably, Rob and his law students were part of the legal team that successfully represented and defended a former NFL New England Patriots football player in the high-profile nine-week double-homicide jury trial, Commonwealth v. Aaron Hernandez in 2017, resulting in the client's acquittal on all charges. Prior to joining Harvard, Rob excelled as an attorney in private practice for a decade, representing a diverse clientele, was an executive search consultant for AM Law 100 Law firms, and was a high school English teacher. Rob is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts.
