About Robert Reid

I have over 30 years experience as a health services researcher and research leader in Canada and the US. My research accomplishments are concentrated in 5 main areas: conceptualizing and actioning the "Learning Health System" for rapid, evidence-based health system change; primary care organization, financing and delivery; integrated care and financing; population health, chronic illness care and clinical prevention; and person-based risk adjustment methods. As the inaugural Chief Scientist and the Hazel McCallion Research Chair in Learning Health Systems at the Institute for Better Health (IBH), I led the development and implementation of the LHS Action Framework, a Canadian-made framework to improve equity-centred health system performance. I now concentrate my time on mentorship and assisting system leaders and scientists achieve success in their efforts to improve health and health care for populations. I am also Professor at the Institute for Health Policy, Management, & Evaluation at the Dalla Lana School of Pubic Health of the University of Toronto. I also hold positions as Professor ( in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and as Professor (part-time) of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact at McMaster University. My medical residency training is in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health, and I am a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine.
