About Robert Rivera

Robert is Currently the Coordinator of Veteran services at Metro State University. These are example of my work that illustrates serving students in an inclusive, culturally-responsive way. Collaborated with admission department on the MN Virtual Transfer exploration week Coordinated Monthly meetings during the fall and spring semesters for Veterans Network Honored and celebrated Military holidays like Memorial Day and fourth of July and Veterans Day Benefits application assistance, Supporting JST credit transfer Federal and state education benefits advising throughout the year. Implemented a partnership with V.A Medical to educate Veterans on medical benefits and services E-mailed Military student on different opportunities for Vets on and off campus. Used social media platforms: Facebook, slack to message the Veterans club and Military students about events and meeting. Sent welcome letters to all new Military students about best practices and requirements for certifications. I have weekly meetings with Certifying official to work out problems in the process. Invite all students to MAIR events like MLK day, Veterans Day, LGBTQ+ month events, Latino heritage month, African American month, and Native American month. Collaborate with Minnesota State collages during Earth week to engage student with the intersectionality of the sustainability movement. Serve as campus resource related to education benefits and changes in policy Worked on multiple work committees to hire new employees to Metro State. I am a member of the Anti-Racism Coalition or ARC for short: we hosted the 2-year reflection on the murder of George Floyd. I have reached out to local State Community colleges to build a connection with Military affiliated transfer students. Century college, North Hennepin, Saint Paul College, MCTC, Normandale Community college. Provide a welcoming center that provides snack and meals to in-person students. In proving these services and support and in finding Students resources, My actions and work promote a sense of belonging and heighten the retention rates and support student’s success at Metropolitan State University. His background in urban education and classroom management experience helps him support both tutor and parent mentors. Robert has received a two year degree in Database management from the Air force Community College, Bachelors in History and a minor in secondary education from Augsburg College and is currently working on his master’s in education at Hamline University.
