About Robert Roan

A gentle, good-natured, curious, and relationship oriented associate marriage and family therapist looking for more supervised hours working with couples, families or children. I like working with people who are coming to grips with the fact that their current way of doing life is not working in a big way and helping them reconnect with their heart values. Like the author and physician Gabor Mate, I am most interested in the answer to the question “Where’s the pain?” I’ve learned that vulnerability and pain feel safe with me and that being a safe place can open someone up to deep work, which is what makes the most sense to me. I have a very client centered focus and try to make my groups a combination of theory (e.g. DBT) and practical interventions (interventions designed by the group for situations they describe) Clinical work that would interest me includes eating disorders, sexuality, couples therapy, family therapy, life transitions, and stuckness. I also have an MBA and a background in computer systems and am interested in working with advanced digital technologies to transform mental health. I would be interested in non-clinical work supporting therapists' use of technology, such as by providing technical support or being an interface between clinicians and technical people.
