Background
About Robert Ryan
I have been in my current role at ValitaCell (now a part of Beckman Coulter Life Sciences) since October 2021, working as a field application scientist for the Quantum product line (including ValitaTiter). My focus in the role is assisting our global clients with onboarding the Quantum products, including onsite training, demonstration and troubleshooting. I have a very strong work ethic - I am a self-starter and very driven, but I also work very well collaborating with a team and consulting colleagues when their expertise is needed. All of these skills are vital for my role, to ensure a positive customer experience. In both a work and laboratory environment, I am organised, meticulous and precise. I am eager to learn and understand, which has led to an impressive academic track-record. Through my time with both ValitaCell and BMG, I have developed excellent customer service skills. I am known to be patient and approachable with customers, and always help with a reassuring and positive attitude. I am also comfortable and confident in delivering training sessions and presentations, having years of experience in various scientific and non-scientific roles. My academic background is in Biology, in particular Physiology and Biomedical science. In 2013, I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University, with a Masters (distinction) in Biomedical Science. During my MSc course, I excelled in both my taught modules and research project, while working part-time and balancing other commitments. I was also awarded the University medal for the best academic performance for this program, which illustrates a number of the strengths outlined above. Prior to this, I completed a BSc in Physiology at University College Cork in 2010, where I received an Honours degree. For the past 6 years, my primary role has been application and technical support for a wide range of microplate reader technologies, from absorbance and fluorescence to more complex methods like fluorescence polarisation and time-resolved fluorescence. This includes remote (and occasional onsite) training, optimisation and troubleshooting for our customers in the UK and Ireland. This may be presale or during a demonstration, in collaboration with the sales team, as well as post-sale support where we provide free application support for the lifetime of the instrument.
