About Robert Schweppe

I am currently on the watch for a new career opportunity outside science from May 2024 onwards. I would like to contribute to the transformation of industries in the digitazition age, be it in the public administration, health or energy sector. Any project will profit from my strong analytical thinking, collaborative mindset and understanding of DevOps processes. In my dream job, I help shaping digital transformation solutions for clients in an agile team. In my current job, we create a set of operational global, multi-month forecasts of multiple variables of the water cycle on land (like soil moisture or river discharge). On a high performance computing cluster we orchestrate all steps necessary to download data, process them, pass them on to Fortran-based land surface models, and upload them to be accessible for the general public. This work is contained in a contract from the large European weather agency (ECMWF). My tasks involve the development of the task management, creating solutions for data exchange and data analysis. We mainly depend on a Python stack with bits of Fortran and Bash mixed in. The software is hosted and curated on a gitlab instance and deployed on Linux servers. I supervise the operation. of the forecast system. In addition to my experiences in software development, I regularly enjoy giving trainings and workshops. My core fields of expertise are hydrology, geographical information systems and agriculture.
