About Robert Scott Lawrence

I am a commercial litigator and intellectual property lawyer at Lawrence Bartels LLP. The firm is comprised of experienced trial lawyers who previously worked at AmLaw 100 firms and litigation boutiques, and who regularly take complex business disputes to trial in state and federal courts. My law practice encompasses a broad variety of litigation matters, ranging from complex commercial disputes to white collar criminal defense. I have represented clients in federal and state courts in cases involving copyright and trademark infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, securities violations, bank fraud, tax fraud, toxic torts, unfair competition, and civil and criminal racketeering. While my practice initially focused on defending bank fraud and tax fraud cases in federal court, it has broadened substantially in the last 20 years and now focuses primarily on business and partnership disputes involving allegations of breach of contract, fraud, and breach of fiduciary duty; commercial disputes between companies and high net worth individuals; and litigation involving copyright and trademark infringement. My current caseload include a partnership dispute over a multi-million dollar capital call; defense of a wage and hour class action against a restaurant chain; a business dispute between former partners alleging mismanagement and theft of corporate funds; a copyright infringement case involving a famous comic book; and a series of cases involving false advertising and unfair competition. When I am not in court, my time is dedicated to other pursuits, including writing and lecturing on copyright and trademark law in the context of literature, film and art.
