About Robert Shaker

I have been building computers and exploring them since I was a little kid. It was something my dad introduced me to at an early age. For some reason, I had never thought of this as a possible career path. Until the fall of 2021 semester when I took my first computer science class. Instantly I applied for a change in major to computer science. When the semester ended, and winter break began for the first time in my life I was excited for vacation to end and for classes to begin. Up until this point in my school career I had not tried. There is an art to learning and a personalized technique for studying. My art was crude and my technique was poor. I had the will but without the skills in tow, I was sinking. I sported a 1.7 GPA in spring 2022 and fall 2022 earning me consecutive academic warnings from the Dean’s office. I knew if I did nothing, I would be out of school not studying the subject I had come to love anymore. From then on, I have not dropped below a 3.0 GPA in a semester and have made the Dean's list twice hoping for a jump to the Chancellor’s list in my final semester at UMass Dartmouth. The reason I am telling this story is to demonstrate some of the changes I have conducted on myself over these past five years. Showing how I’ve strived to be better and overachieved my expectations for myself, and how I believe the ceiling for me continues to rise. Over the past few months I have already been working alongside some members of NUWC. For my senior project I have been constructing an algorithm along with my team members for autonomous decision making in a UAV. I have enjoyed this project a lot so far as it would be very exciting to see our code being applied in a real world setting. I am a caring, curious, ambitious young man. I strive to better myself everyday whether that be morally, mentally, or emotionally. I am unsatisfied with the idea of becoming stagnant. My hope is to one day lead a company I believe in towards greatness and solidify myself as a leader and bearer of the foremost knowledge in my industry.
