Background
About Robert Soyka
After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree at Elizabethtown College in May 2024, I was lucky enough to find a full time job as an environmental engineer trainee with the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). The position is in the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation (BAMR) which deals heavily with water treatment and forest restoration that is being polluted by abandoned mine sites. I can confidently say that the experience I gained through college and internships will help me through the projects I will be working on. Having just started this position, I’ve already traveled to several mine/project sites and have met a lot of great people that I’ll have the pleasure of working with. This goes along with my desire of working in the field and exploring Pennsylvania’s vast environment. For as long as I work here, I will dedicate myself to helping the DEP reach their mission, to protect the state’s air, land, and water resources, and to ensure the health and safety of the public.
