About Robert Stoll

I am a partner on the firm’s Patent team and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. I focus my efforts on helping companies by trouble shooting applications for patent at the USPTO. I also work on the post grant procedures including IPR. I provide opinions and litigation advice and also act as an expert on patent procedures. I retired from the USPTO as Commissioner for Patents at the end of 2011 after a 34-year government career. I was instrumental in the passage of landmark patent legislation, the America Invents Act. Having risen from the rank of examiner to lead the organization, I have spent my career improving the intellectual property system. I focused on educating the public, applicants, corporations and foreign governments on the criticality of intellectual property to economic growth and job creation and stressed the importance of a comprehensive understanding of the complex intellectual property laws to best use the system to protect an invention.
