My passion – as a manager and team leader – is to help each team member do the best job possible, constantly improving their skills and abilities. Each person can be encouraged to excel by ensuring their individual and business goals are aligned and that they receive the resources and support needed. With proper coaching, mentoring and leadership, I’ve caused my direct reports to realize they are far more capable than they believed, resulting in greater accomplishments in support of company objectives. I strive to ensure my team delivers the highest quality results on time despite unplanned obstacles and challenges, which I treat as an opportunity to excel and not allowing them to have a negative effect. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing individuals, as well as teams, deliver more than they thought possible. At Terumo, while working as a Quality Engineer, I was asked to take over the calibration program after identifying existing risk within the process. Working with a new supplier, I developed an 8-year multi-million-dollar contract that provided calibrations and other services. In the end, the calibration lab received ISO 17025 accreditation in 32 months – 4 months ahead of schedule – leading to a calibration reliability of 98%. While working for Crescent Specialty Blades, the President of the company challenged me to lead the effort to obtain ISO 9001 Accreditation. This was a huge project, requiring the creation of hundreds of documents, in-house auditing and hundreds of hours of training of everyone from senior execs to custodial personnel. The military knowledge and experience gained in the positions of tank commander, platoon sergeant, drill sergeant and instructor, laid the strong foundation for my leadership abilities.
