About Robert van Galen

Insolvency and Restructuring work has been the core of my practice for over 30 years. After having been a partner at NautaDutilh for most of that time, heading its Insolvency and Restructuring Group, I now continue my practice as a full time of counsel together with our team. As the case may be, I love the thrill of the joint effort to make the debtor emerge from its financial difficulties, the stress involved with bankruptcy litigation and the legal challenges posed by the issues arising in the context of insolvency. I have been involved in most major cases in the Netherlands over three decades and have litigated several cases in the Dutch Supreme Court. My specialism is cross-border insolvency cases.I had the honor to fulfill several functions such as president of the European association of insolvency practitioners, INSOL Europe, president of the Dutch association of insolvency lawyers, INSOLAD and president of the Amsterdam lawyers society (Praktizijnssociëteit). Some of my present occupancies are- representative of the Dutch government in UNCITRAL Working Group V - international director of the American College of Bankruptcy- member of the Group of Experts on Restructuring and Insolvency Laws of the European Union- member of the editing board of the legal magazine Ondernemingsrecht- substitute justice in the Court of Appeal of The HagueIf I have time left I love to act as a soaring instructor and to play the piano (classical).Recently I published a book named "Introduction to European Insolvency Law."
