About Robert Voets

As VP of Financial Crimes Investigations and Fraud Intelligence at Ion Bank, I lead enterprise-wide efforts to detect, prevent, and respond to financial crime with precision and integrity. With over 42 years of experience in law enforcement and banking, I bring a unique blend of investigative expertise, strategic leadership, and technological innovation to the fight against fraud. I served 27 years with the West Haven Police Department, where I co-founded the Computer and Technology Forensic Crimes Unit, led the Fraud Division, and spent 15 years investigating drug cases from street-level operations to major trafficking. I was also a member of the FBI/DEA OCDETF Task Force, handling complex narcotics and organized crime investigations. My work has earned numerous commendations, including a Medal of Merit, the IAFCI 2007 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year – International Runner-Up, and a U.S. Attorney’s Award. My expertise in digital forensics and cyber fraud has been featured in industry publications and case studies. I’ve contributed thought leadership to Verafin, CT Bankers Association, and the ABA, and helped shape tools like the ABA’s Treasury Check Verification System. In 2023, I joined the Federal Reserve’s Scams Information Sharing Work Group, a national initiative focused on collaborative fraud mitigation. I currently oversee all internal and external fraud investigations at Ion Bank, and serve on multiple industry committees including NEACH, IAFCI Cyber Fraud Industry Group (Co-Chair), and the Anti-Phishing Working Group. I’m committed to mentoring future leaders, advancing investigative technologies, and driving industry-wide progress in financial crime prevention.
