Background
About Robert Warren
I have always been fascinated by the electronics that makes our technology tick, and growing up as a natural problem solver, no one was surprised when I wanted to become an electrical engineer. I learned of my passion for electrical engineering in my high school engineering club. We explored engineering in multiple ways, but the project that stood out to me was 3D printing a prosthetic hand that could actually open and close for another student who was born without her left hand. When the local news station interviewed this student, she said the first thing she did was to go around her house and pick up anything she could. This taught me that my interests can be used to change someone’s life. Now, I am fulfilling my goal of becoming an electrical engineer at the University of Washington. My coursework includes circuit analysis, circuit theory, computer architecture, continuous time linear systems, design of digital circuits and systems, semiconductor devices and circuits, linear integrated circuits, and very large-scale integration (VLSI) design. In my free time, I am continuing to explore my interest in electrical hardware by participating in different clubs. As a member of the electronics subsystem on the Husky Robotics Team, I am designing custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) to be used on our Mars rover in competitions. In the WOOF3D club, I used computer aided design software, such as SolidWorks, to design unique 3D printable solutions to solve modern problems. When I am not at college, I use what I learned at UW in internships. My internships have given me valuable insight to the type of work electrical engineers do, while also showing me that I enjoy the professional work environment. At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, my work ranged from battery research to exploring how Bluetooth radio frequency can be used for real time location tracking to testing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) devices for asset tracking. At NXP, I designed circuit boards to be used in various applications.
