About Robert Waters

I am an ARB registered Architect with 10 years of experience in practice. I've worked on projects in various sectors, across multiple work stages and scales, and in small and large teams, having managed small projects myself as well as working in much larger teams to deliver large projects on site. I've got keen interests in photography and music, and have used my skills as a writer and photographer to take me to many amazing events and places, writing and photographing for various magazines and blogs over the past 7 years. My masters thesis looked at the relationship between music and the built environment. PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE I worked at 3DReid architects for over 7 years, after finishing my undergraduate degree. I worked in their London and Manchester studios before, throughout and after my masters degree, and whilst completing my part 3 to become a qualified architect. In October 2022 I moved to Grimshaw Architects and have been working on large scale infrastructure and civic projects since joining. I've also been actively involved in a number of extra-curricular activities throughout my career, such as equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and wellbeing programmes. EDUCATION My studio work at the MSA focused on complex adaptive models and intelligent urbanism. We used data visualisation and parametric modelling to understand the urban environment and develop sophisticated design solutions rooted in a relational understanding of social and technical mechanisms. At Nottingham University, our studio approach centred around a holistic contextual research process. We considered historical, geographical, political and socio-economic context and from these delivered sensitive but bold design interventions. MISSION STATEMENT I am absolutely passionate about architecture and the creation of high-quality, enjoyable space. I am eager to keep learning more about the built environment and hope to put my knowledge to good use.
