About Robert Westergan

I am a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon with more than 27 years of practice experience in both academic and community settings. My background as a physician executive includes leadership positions with health plans, multi-specialty and single specialty physician group practices, physician hospital organizations, independent practice associations, hospital administrations, hospital medical staff leadership, health care employer coalitions and professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. My experience as a physician executive has also included leadership positions for a CMS deeming authority for the accreditation of advanced diagnostic imaging facilities and the credentialing of home health care facilities and physicians. As a consultant to the Office of the Inspector General, I have assisted in the development of OIG advisory opinions regarding various gainsharing arrangements for Medicare beneficiaries. As a medical director for workers' compensation insurers and several health plans, I have developed medical policies and guidelines used to guide utilization management decisions and appropriate use criteria for advanced diagnostic imaging studies and surgical/non-surgical interventions to manage musculoskeletal disorders and conditions.
