About Robert Zayas

As Executive Director of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), I am proud to lead an organization that serves over 780 member schools and nearly student-athletes across New York State. With more than two decades of experience in educational leadership and interscholastic athletics, I am committed to fostering student growth through participation in education-based sports and activities. Throughout my tenure at NYSPHSAA, I have prioritized expanding opportunities for students, enhancing safety and mental health initiatives, and advocating for policies that support equity, access, and integrity in high school athletics. I work closely with school leaders, coaches, legislators, and national governing bodies to ensure the values of education and character development remain at the core of every athletic experience. Passionate about the power of sports to shape lives, I believe that participation in interscholastic athletics offers lifelong benefits—for students, schools, and communities alike. Whether implementing innovative programs like Girls Flag Football or leading the Association through times of challenge and change, I strive to serve with vision, integrity, and purpose. Let’s connect to collaborate, share ideas, or support the continued success of student-athletes across New York and beyond.
