About Roberta Meyers

My skills and areas of expertise include criminal justice legislative and public policy analysis; nonprofit management; program/project management; grant writing; fund raising; community organizing; coalition building, and public speaking. I have worked at the Legal Action Center for nearly 30 years in various capacities and have been a staff member of the National H.I.R.E. Network project since its inception in 2002. I've served as field educator and organizer, co-deputy director, co-director, and since October 2007 as director. I work directly with policy makers, advocates, and more importantly, people directly affected by the policies I fight to change. My work includes identifying public policy priorities that directly affect employment opportunities for people with criminal records and I help my partners develop appropriate strategies that strengthen or challenge existing legislation. I've accepted invitations to present at dozens of national, regional, and local criminal justice and workforce development conferences around the country. I've been called to testify before Congress and state legislatures, advised top officials in the federal and state administrations and co-authored and contributed to several publications in my field. My hobbies and interests include reading, traveling, and volunteering. I am very committed to spending time with my family, friends, and church. I am drawn to and passionate about fighting for social, economic, and racial justice; eliminating the existence of cancer; and helping women and young people to achieve, succeed, and overcome their challenges in life.
